You can overwrite any of the parent theme files by copying them to your child theme folder, retaining the directory structure. For example if you want to overwrite buddypress-functions.php from the parent theme, this file is located in aardvark/lib/inc/ so in the child theme you need to replicate the directory structure to give aardvark-child/lib/inc/buddypress-functions.php.
